Digistat Surgical Information System (SIS)

Digistat Surgical Information System (SIS) is the comprehensive solution for every staff member's demands for the Surgical workflow. It eases the demanding workload of surgical procedures. From appointment scheduling to operating-room planning, from anesthesia to surgery documentation, from stockroom management to optimal use of resources, this solution brings significant benefits to the main aspects of  surgical workflow and its main actors. Digistat SIS - with an intuitive and touch-screen user interface - can cut down expenditure and help to improve performance, efficiency and results. Digistat SIS is a Class I medical device in EU/EFTA according to the medical devices directives (93/42/EEG as amended).

Description

Planning and management of operating lists

Digistat SIS allows the planning and the organizing of surgical procedures with a simple and intuitive software, providing tools to help and guide you through the entire workflow. Starting from operating lists and surgical procedures, all can be easily planned according to surgical operating time slots and priorities.

Anaesthesiological record

Digistat SIS provides anesthesiologists with various tools to document patient care throughout the surgical workflow. The anaesthesiological recording process is aligned to national guidelines and manages the pre-, intra- and post-operative activities. The pre-anesthesia visit is customized to meet specific needs of the department and the patient: elective, emergency, pediatric, etc. The anaesthesiological record can be filled in digitally in the operating room, on dedicated touch screen terminals. All anesthesia events are organized hierarchically, for logical and chronological groups, and are easily identifiable. The patient’s parameters are captured in near real-time, displayed in graphs and tables and, possibly after the user validation, automatically placed in the anaesthesiological record. Ascom UMS develops internally all medical device integration. The automatic capture can increase the quantity and readability of the available information and their reliability.

In the operating rooms

Digistat SIS offers the following functions in the operating room :

  • Monitoring of the use of the operating-rooms and the on-going surgical procedures,
  • Rescheduling “last-minute” of the whole activity of the rooms;
  • Support to the emergency management;
  • Surgical task scheduling, divided by the surgeon, business unit, department, operating rooms, etc;
  • Management and tracking of special equipment required;
  • Management of multiple surgical procedures;
  • Utilization in the operating room without the need for keyboard and mouse;
  • Management of operating rooms with visual inspection via real-time webcam

The surgical plan is updated during the operative day in order to show the true progress of the interventions and changes in the daily surgical plan according to emergencies, longer operations than expected, cancellations and placement of reserves. The interface is intuitive, user-friendly and allows you to reschedule the daily operating procedures, even on different operating rooms , using “Drag & Drop” features

Post-operating Intensive Care and recovery room

After the procedure the patient is transferred to the recovery room or a post-operative intensive care unit where he/she will be managed and monitored involving the use of many different medical devices. Digistat, in a seamless data flow, can automatically collect and record the parameters generated by these medical devices together with scores, therapies ongoing, post-surgery indications for the department, etc ….

Department statistics

Digistat SIS is accompanied by a statistical and reporting data management system based on visual tools, configurable by the user, to extract statistics and reports. The reports may contain various types of charts, tables, lists, bullets, pivot tables. They can be configured simply, by means of the available tools, to provide different kinds of aggregate results: specific dashboard for monitoring of consumption (medicines, materials, prostheses), productivity statistics (e.g. by relating the number and types of interventions), statistics based on the recorded operating data (procedure duration by typology / operator), to evaluate the use of the operating rooms and identify possible optimizations, etc.. The data collected during the surgical workflow can be used in the reports and so can aide hospital management to improve workflow efficiency.

Stock management

Digistat allows to associate the used materials and related costs to the right patient throughout the surgical process. Billing procedures and expenditure calculations thus become fast and reliable. Moreover, Digistat basing on the planned procedures, therapies and the use of unplanned resources can forecast the needs of materials and so help to guarantee their availability for the operations and therapies. The system’s intended users are pharmacists and nurses. Pharmacists can rely on the refill functions (for trolleys and cabinets), the real time stock monitoring function, the daily material planning function, and the under-stock and expiry date management functions. Nurses can use specific tools for the selection of planned and unplanned materials. Material management is based on the extensive use of barcodes or RFIDs helping to improve the correctness of recorded data. The record of the materials utilization is made directly in the operating room. Since the operating room is associated with the intervention under way, the use of the material in the room is automatically tied to the intervention, the patient and the operating unit of implementation of the action. Digistat can associate to each intervention a standard surgical kit of medical devices and resource (materials, medicines, instruments, drapes, etc.) supporting the planning of materials. Before the operation the user can modify the default list to fit the particular intervention. After the operation, the unused
kit material is returned to the pharmacy and recorded.
