Digistat Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Digistat Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The Digistat Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is designed to automate the documentation of the patient care across the hospital's complex intensive care units. Digistat ICU can help clinicians and nurses to streamline care processes and improve efficiency. The Clinicians have access to manually entered data and to information acquired in near real-time from the connected medical devices and systems (HIS, ADT, Laboratory, etc.).

This suite of modules offers Intensive Care Units a comprehensive set of configurable solutions, advanced technologies and outcome-management tools designed to improve staff productivity, control costs and help deliver a better care to the patient.

Description

Extreme versatility for all ICUs

Digistat ICU is a versatile solution for managing all types of ICUs from neonatal to adults.

Digistat ICU is designed to automate the documentation of the activities of the department to ensure efficient use of clinical facilities and proper control of activities. The system has been designed based on needs of the department (doctors and nurses) and administrative staff and includes tools for all these stakeholders. The computerization project therefore meets the common needs of an optimized management of the department’s activities.

The expected results of this type of a computerization process are as follows:

  • recording of the patient clinical data in the patient record;
  • electronic management of prescriptions and activities;
  • electronic documentation of drug administration;
  • implementation of drug delivery procedures and tools at the bedside;
  • connection with the equipment at the bedside for an automatic and complete documentation of the patient’s vital signs;
  • calculation of severity score (severity index);
  • aide to infection control management;
  • calculate daily fluid balance;
  • creation of reports on the results and on the department’s objectives;
  • department statistics

A single source of information

Digistat ICU collects, and processes data from various sources and integrates them within the patient’s digital records. Clinicians have access to these information in an easily legible and searchable form. Manages automatically the data acquired from medical devices, the manually entered parameters, the diagnostic data (laboratory), demographic information, visits of patients, patient’s medical journal, the severity score, diagnostic imaging (eg endoscopy) and the data relating to current therapies

Near real-time acquisition of patient-parameters from medical devices

Ascom develops all drivers internally for medical devices integration. Data from  monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, blood gas analyzers, CEC, etc. … are acquired in near real-time, organized and displayed in graphs and user-defined tables to offer support for clinical workflow. Data can be automatically captured and validated to increase the reliability of available information.

Bedside and centralized management

Digistat ICU can be available at the nurse central stations as well as the bedside. Having it at the bedside can help improving nurse workflows and associating the information to the right patient. At central stations allows to the nursing staff to handle a wide range of beds (e.g. 20 patients on a single screen) with synoptic tables that summarize the situation through the display of vital parameters, the active infusions, programmed and performed therapy and device status.

Personalized clinical folder

Digistat ICU is provided with a configuration tool with a fast and comprehensive interface that is able to define separate medical records for specialized areas: General Intensive Care, Pediatric Intensive Care, Neonatal Intensive Care, Intensive Care Post Operative, Neurosurgical Intensive Care.

Patient treatment plan

The patient’s treatment plan includes both medication and any other action provided for care and treatment and integrates the medical nursing action. Doctors prescribe and supervise the treatment plan. The prescriptions give life to a timetabled plan, a list of activities that nursing staff will use to document the execution with the aid of an intuitive “touch”graphical interface. The information related to the therapy can be linked to the data acquired by the medical devices permitting to correlate them with the adopted therapy.

Clinical diary

Doctors, nurses and consultants compile a single integrated diary, differentiated in relation to the professional role, supported by the use of color for the immediate recognition of the type of note. The preconfigured texts, the automatic import of data in the medical record, the immediate and contextual access to other functions within the folder, the user interface tools, etc … will facilitate the work of doctors and nursing staff.

Score calculation

Digistat ICU using the recorded data can calculate score indices and document them in the patient record. The score indexes can be calculated on demand or on schedule. The clinicians can access the calculated scores and use them for their evaluations. Some of the most used scores are pre-defined such as: Apache II, TISS 28, SAPS II, NEMS, SOFA, RTS, Euroscore, Higgins , 0 MPM, MPM 24, GCS, APS, Apgar, NMI, NIPS, PIPP, etc.. The hospital can even create new self-defined algorithms.

Post-operating Intensive Care and Recovery Room

After a surgical procedure the patient is transferred to the recovery room or a post-operative intensive care unit where he/she will be managed and monitored involving the use of many different medical devices. Digistat, in a seamless data flow, can automatically collect and record the parameters generated by these medical devices together with scores, therapies ongoing, post-surgery indications for the department, etc ….
